Is the teenSMART discount available to my teen?
The AAA teenSMART discount is available to licensed teen drivers ages of 16-18 who successfully complete the teenSMART program and who meet any state-specific eligibility requirements. The AAA teenSMART discount is currently available in the following states: Arizona, Northern California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho*, Indiana*, Kansas, Kentucky, Montana, Nevada, New York, Ohio*, Oklahoma, Oregon*, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming. More states will be added in the future.
How much can I save on my teen's auto insurance?
Although ADEPT Driver and AAA work together to provide the teenSMART program to AAA Members, ADEPT does not have access to AAA policy information. In many cases, the savings may translate to discounts of hundreds of dollars more than the cost of the program. Savings over a three year period may exceed a thousand dollars in some cases. Your local AAA Sales Representative can help you calculate your savings using your actual premium.
How is the AAA teenSMART discount applied?
When a teen successfully certifies, ADEPT Driver sends the teen’s information directly to AAA and the discount is applied automatically.
How does the teenSMART certification process work?
When the teen has completed all of the Computer Time activities and entered the codes from the teenSMART Parent-Teen Activity Video, he or she will be allowed to take the Certification Test. Teens may take the test as many times as they need to in order to pass. Teens email or mail their test results back to ADEPT Driver, where a Certificate of Completion will be generated and sent to the teen for their records. ADEPT sends certification results directly to AAA Policy Processing weekly. AAA then verifies that the teen is eligible for the teenSMART discount and applies the discount directly to the policy based on the rules described below.
All Other States: If the customer purchases and completes the teenSMART program within 60 days of policy inception, renewal date or the date the teen was added to their policy, the discount will be applied retroactively back to the inception date, renewal date or the date the teen was added. If the customer completes the program after the 60-day window, the discount will be applied as of the date the teen passes the teenSMART Certification Test.
In all states, the discount is available beginning at age 16 and is removed at the first policy renewal after the teen turns 19.
Can teens who have already had an accident qualify for the teenSMART discount?
Initial eligibility requirements vary by state. Check with your local AAA Sales Representative to find out whether your teen would be eligible for the discount upon completion of the program. Even without the insurance savings, you will be reducing your teen’s risk of a crash.
Can the teen lose the discount early?
Northern California: Teens can lose the discount early if they have more than 3 driving record points.
All Other States: Teens can lose the discount early if they are convicted of a moving violation or are principally at-fault in an accident.
In all states, teens can lose the discount early if their driver’s license is suspended or revoked for any reason.
Do customers need to purchase a separate copy for each teen?
A purchase is required for each teen to receive teenSMART certification. However, there are program components that can be shared by several teens. Therefore, if there are multiple units that go to the same address, the additional units contain only a unique certification ID and an additional Student Workbook. The additional units are discounted with a valid Priority Code or Coupon Code.
