The teenSMART
program appears to be playing movies out of order
If the Certification Test is not working because
it skips to the end, or the movies appear to be
playing but not in the right order, it is an indication
that the movies are almost certainly being played
through media player software instead of teenSMART.
All versions of Windows can be set to automatically
play media files when a CD is inserted. Also,
after a CD is inserted a menu may come up asking
if the user would like to run the media files
on the CD through a media player. Neither of the
above is the same as running the movies through
the teenSMART program. teenSMART plays the movies
in the proper order, plays exercises and stores
data regarding the teen’s progress. None
of those things will occur if the movies are played
outside of teenSMART.
We find that some people who experience this
problem have never actually installed the teenSMART
program. Here is a quick checklist to ensure that
you have installed and are playing the movies
directly through the teenSMART program:
- There is a teenSMART icon on your computer desktop.
- You double-click on the teenSMART desktop icon
to open and run the program.
- You have successfully entered your student information
in the teenSMART program and you select your user
name at the Sign In screen each time you use teenSMART.
- During the interactive driving exercises (hazard
clicking, risk-o-meter, etc.), the program responds
appropriately to your mouse clicks.

When I try and run the Introduction, I get a run-time error that includes the words "Automation Error"
The start of the introduction is the first time that teenSMART is trying to play movies directly from one of the program CDs, and this error message indicates that the type of movie teenSMART uses cannot be played correctly on the specific computer getting the error. If you get this error, you have two options:
1. Try installing teenSMART on another computer. Most people find that they will not get this error on two different PCs.
2. If you do not have access to another computer, please contact ADEPT Driver Product Support at 800-808-5678 and we will help you resolve this problem.

There
are no buttons visible, or the Exit button does
not work.
The buttons all appear in a white border
on the right hand edge of the monitor.
Under Display Properties Settings, be sure that
font size is set to 96 dpi and your desktop area
is set to 800 by 600 pixels.

Only the
title teenSMART and the logo fit on the screen
– the buttons on the right, the words “ADEPT
Driver” in the bottom middle, and the Exit
button in the lower left are all “off the
edge” of the screen.
Under Display Properties Settings, be sure that
your desktop area is set to 800 by 600 pixels.

The movies
are playing but there is no sound
There are numerous places where volume controls
can be found, and any control set to low volume
or muted will affect the sound level. Some speakers
have volume controls directly on them. The Windows
volume controls can be found by opening the Control
Panel, selecting the icon for Multimedia (Win98,
may differ for other versions of Windows), selecting
the Audio tab and clicking on the volume icon
under the Playback section (on some computers
there is also an icon on the Start Bar in the
lower right corner which will lead to this screen).
In the Audio tab there is also a setting in the
Playback section that specifies the Preferred
Device. This setting should indicate the sound
card present on the computer. If it does not,
then various sound problems may occur for any
applications which use sound.
If there is an icon on the Start Bar for the
sound (normally located in the lower right corner
by the clock) then there is an easy way to test
sound volume. Put the mouse on the sound icon
and left-click one time. This will bring up a
small volume slider. Move the slider with the
mouse and note that upon releasing the slider
Windows will chime, allowing a quick and easy
test of the current volume level.

The video
is too dark
The Brightness and Contrast control on the monitor
can affect how light or dark the monitor’s
display will be. Also, many monitors have internal
color controls that can be adjusted with buttons
on the monitor itself. These controls can also
affect how light or dark the display will be.

Error message: Cannot
find path – CD
I am trying to run one of the program lessons and teenSMART asks me to insert the disc, but the disc is already in the drive.
While rare, there are several reasons why this problem may occur. Please contact ADEPT Driver Product Support at 800-808-5678 and we will help determine the cause and fix the problem for you.
